  • Mary Kate is a Provisional Licensed Professional Counselor (PLPC). She has a Bachelor of Science in Early Childhood Education from Louisiana Tech University and a Masters of Arts in Clinical Mental Health Counseling from Louisiana Tech University.

As someone who has seen the impact of counseling personally in her family growing up, she always had in the back of her mind that she wanted to pursue counseling as a career. Her first job was teaching 3rd grade when she graduated with her undergraduate degree. Her experience teaching fueled her desire to help people with their struggles. She witnessed her students wrestle with problems at home and personally. She realized she had a passion for helping people with the root issues in their lives. She desires to help her clients find freedom and healing through counseling.

She has experience with children, adolescents, and adults. She has spent time counseling in home-based services with an under-served population who have experienced trauma. She works with individuals and groups using a trauma-informed perspective. She also uses cognitive-behavior therapy and solution-focused therapy to help clients achieve their goals in counseling.

She has been trained in Story-Informed Trauma Therapy which means she leads clients through their timeline to identify beliefs they have about themselves and heal from past trauma. She is EMDR-trained, and she integrates Eye Movement Desensitization Reprocessing (EMDR) therapy to help people move from negative beliefs to positive beliefs about themselves. She also is working toward becoming a registered play therapist (EMDR) and has completed level 1 training of Theraplay. She works with children and their families through play to help them resolve issues they are seeing within their child and the family unit. She has a more direct approach to counseling along with working alongside her clients to help them find the healing and freedom they are looking for in their lives.

She believes God can use counseling to help people feel known and heard in ways that can be so hard in our fast-paced world. Counseling is a way to slow down our everyday lives and have someone else hear our stories. We may not even realize the beliefs and burdens we carry around each day until someone can walk through our lives with us to see where healing can happen. It is not an easy journey, but it is always worth it in the end.
